Frequently Asked Questions

It is our goal to answer the frequently asked questions we have received via email and on social media in regards to the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering. Please read this page in it's entirety before contacting us, your question may have been answered below.

Do I have to be Gullah/Geechee to attend the conference?

No, but if you are, it's an added plus. This conference is open to everyone, but our focus is on Black and Indigenous herbalists and the community that they serve, without apology.

What should I know if I decide to camp on the property?

First of, camping on the property is optional and not mandatory. The conference takes place on my family's property and it is not a campground. There are no shower facilities, and camping is only available for Saturday night only. You will need to provide your own tent, sleeping bag, pillow, and other things you will need to camp overnight. No personal open fires are allowed. No pets are allowed.

Is this a family friendly event?

Of course it is! We encourage you to bring your family so that you can learn and grow in your herbal knowledge together. We have a workshop planned for the children and there is plenty of room for them to run around and explore. We do ask that the be supervised by an adult at all times. Children 15 and under can attend the conference at no cost, when accompanied by a paying adult.

Will there be food vendors?

Yes there will be opportunities to purchase food on site at the conference. We have tried to secure food vendors who can accommodate various diets but we can't guarantee that there will be something there for everyone. You are more than welcome to bring your own food but know that there is no means to cook on the property as personal fires are not allowed. You may leave the property and venture out to find food on your own. There are a few restaurants on the island that should be able to accommodate you.

What is your refund/cancellation policy?

All sales are final so they are no refunds. You may transfer your tickets to someone else for a $5 service charge. This is a rain or shine event. If we have to cancel the 2023 Gullah Geechee Herbal conference due to an unexpected emergency or public health crisis, we will convert the conference to a virtual event.

Is there Wifi/Cell phone service?

There is no wifi service, but cell service is fairly decent. Just be prepared to be without service just in case. You can head back to the main road for a better signal. I would also suggest to bring a car charger or spare battery chargers for your electronic devices and cell phones.

What if it rains?

We have petitioned the Ancestors for great weather for the conference, but the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering will happen rain or shine! If there are any showers, we'll sing in the rain, splash in the mud and have a good time anyway.

Can I purchase tickets the day of?

There will not be any tickets sold on the day of the event or at the door. Tickets sales end on August 1, 2023 or until sold out, whichever comes first. Please do not show up without, you will not be permitted inside the conference. Tickets are limited so don't procrastinate!

Is it too late for me to be a speaker or vendor?

Unfortunately, yes it is. Putting on an event of this magnitude takes a lot of proper planning and we can't entertain last minute requests for vendors and speakers just a few months before the event. Applications begin in November and end in December. Please visit the site again in November to put in your application to be a part of the conference for 2024.

What is the nearest airport?

The closest airport to the event is Charleston International Airport.
